3 Quick and Easy Garlic Recipes

Garlic make lots of things better. It’s a handy herb to have at home, and the Filipino kitchen is no exemption to the amount of garlic used in its dishes; adobo, sinangag, sisig, caldereta, tinola to name a few. And if you’ve made  all the possible dishes that uses garlic, you still have plenty at home, here are three more ways you can enjoy garlic.

1. Pinoy Garlic Confit

Other recipes available online uses olive oil. But this Garlic Confit is Pinoy because it uses ingredients commonly found in a Filipino  kitchen. Use for soup, stews and spread.

Ingredients

  • 12 Garlic heads peeled
  • 2 cups cooking oil
  • 3 pcs dried laurel

Instructions

  • In a pot, heat 2 cups of cooking oil.
  • Add peeled garlic and dried laurel leaves.
  • Low simmer until the garlic turns tender and succulent.
  • Let cool, store in a jar and keep refrigerated.

2. Chili Garlic Oil

Here’s a very simple condiment that packs a lot of punch when it comes to adding flavor to your siomai, fried rice, asian noodles, ensalada or even adobo.

3. Herb Butter

This one is the easiest to make and requires no cooking skills. Use it for steak, shrimp, pasta, soup, and bread. Make sure you use only quality butter. There are many herbs you can use for herb butter. I make mine depending on the ingredients available at home. Here are two versions I made recently.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole unsalted butter softened
  • 5 garlic cloves chopped
  • 1/4 cup chopped chives
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley

Instructions

  • In a bowl, mix 1 whole quality unsalted butter, softened, 5 garlic cloves chopped, chopped chives and parsley, salt to taste. Form into a cylinder using aluminum foil or plastic. Refrigerate. Slice as needed.

Spiked Roasted Bell Pepper Butter

In a bowl, combine 1 whole quality unsalted butter, softened, roasted bell pepper, chopped, 1 tbsp. sriracha sauce and 2 tbsps. of your your preferred alcohol. Mine is Fundador Ultra Smooth. Not sponsored. These were the ingredients available at home. Add salt to taste. Form mixture in a cylinder using aluminum foil or plastic. Refrigerate. Slice as needed. Perfect for pasta and as finishing butter to grilled meat.

Make a small batch of Garlic Cream Cheese by combining 2 pcs mashed garlic confit, 1 tbsp chopped chives and 3 tbsps cream cheese.

Garlic is such a common household herb and is one of the most useful ingredients. It’s flavorful, it wards off aswangs, and most importantly it’s healthy.
